I write and design books for experts and non-specialists. I organise complex material, make it easy to understand, and produce finished files for print and ebook readers.

My training as a sub-editor brings careful research, fact-checking and consistency checks to the process, especially where the subject is detailed, technical or unfamiliar to the reader.

A difficult idea, shown clearly.

This short video explains how the Sharpe Ratio is used in finance. I researched it, wrote it and made the moving slides and audio. The same approach can explain one important idea in a minute or support a longer course, handbook, workbook or CPD programme.

Some clients prefer a traditional voiceover, recorded in my studio. Others choose a natural-sounding AI voice, or use their own voice or that of a team member. The choice is yours. A video can stand alone or form part of a series that supports a larger piece of learning.

You do not need a polished brief. Bring the notes, recordings, slides or first draft. We agree the end result, then make it in sensible stages.

Brief

We define the audience, purpose, format and what the finished piece needs to achieve. You keep final approval on the subject matter.

Source material

I review what you have and speak with the people who know the subject best.

Structure

I organise the material into a logical route for the reader or learner.

Draft

I write, edit or script the work in plain, concrete English and share it for review.

Make it work visually

I design the pages, slides or moving visuals so the message is easier to understand and use.

Finished files

You receive final files in the formats you need: print, ebook, PDF, video or course assets.

Ro Maher, writer, editor and learning content designer

I’m a UK-based writer, editor and learning content designer with 25 years’ experience. I studied English at the University of Leeds, then worked as a journalist, sub-editor and copywriter.

Alongside my independent work, I’m a paraplanner at an independent financial advice firm, where precise writing and the careful handling of regulated material matter. I’m used to work that gets checked line by line, and to writing that has to survive subject-matter and compliance review.

Early on, I learned that dense, ornate prose can sound impressive while leaving the reader none the wiser. My approach combines the discipline of news English and copywriting with a lasting influence from William Zinsser’s Writing to Learn: clear writing is a way of understanding hard ideas.

My recent work includes a trilogy of graded Italian readers for beginners to advanced learners, a plain-English guide to Muay Thai and an animated finance explainer.

Start with the right-sized piece of work.

Some briefs need a focused review or rewrite. Others grow into a guide, book, visual explainer or complete learning product. I quote each project after seeing the material and understanding what it needs to achieve.

Content Review

A close review of defined source material, followed by a short written recommendation on the audience, the clearest structure and the most useful next deliverable.

Content Clarity Sprint

A focused review, recommended structure and a developed sample, such as a rewrite, page or visual treatment, to help you decide what to make next. Usually completed in about a week.

From £950

Smaller, well-defined commissions are welcome. For larger work, I provide a fixed proposal once the source material, audience, review process and finished format are clear.

I reserve production time with a 50% initial payment. The remaining balance is paid against agreed milestones or on delivery. Content Reviews are paid in full before work begins.

If a project calls for a cloned voice, I use one only with the owner’s clear permission.
