For regulated financial firms

Plain-English investor communications, ready for review.

I write and design the parts of product information that retail investors and advisers actually read: clear, accurate and built to work with your compliance process.

The communication problem

Technical information still needs to make sense to a real person.

Your underlying product information may be correct. But if a retail reader cannot follow the objectives, risk, costs or possible outcomes, the document is not doing its whole job. I help turn approved specialist material into clear, reader-facing communication.

01

Product summaries

Plain-English narrative for the objectives, risks, costs and performance explanations that sit around the regulated data.

02

Templates and style

Practical language and information-design rules that help an in-house team or platform produce consistent documents at scale.

03

Investor and adviser explainers

Guides, short videos and visual explanations that help people understand a change, a score or a new product communication.

Why Ro

Writing that is clear enough to use, and careful enough to review.

I am a writer, editor and learning content designer with 25 years working with words, including journalism, sub-editing and copywriting. I also work in financial planning, where regulated material is read closely and subject to compliance review.

  • Plain, concrete English without losing necessary qualification
  • Logical structure for non-specialist readers
  • Careful editorial handling of dense material
  • Visual explanations where words alone are not enough
“The aim is not to simplify the truth away. It is to make the truth easier to find, understand and use.”

A practical first step

Start with a CCI Readiness Review.

A small, self-contained review of one existing KID, KIID or draft product summary. It gives you a clear view of what could be made easier for a retail reader to understand before you commit to a wider rewrite.

What you receive

  • A close editorial reading of the document
  • Before-and-after examples of clearer wording
  • Notes on structure, order and reader journey
  • A short recommendation on the most useful next step
  • A clear boundary between editorial suggestions and compliance sign-off

A clean division of work

Your compliance team remains in charge.

My role

Writing and information design

I organise approved source material, write reader-facing explanations, improve flow and create clear visual or written supporting material.

Your role

Regulatory interpretation and sign-off

You and your compliance advisers decide what is required, accurate and suitable. Final approval stays with the firm.

Confidentiality

Careful handling of source material

An NDA is available on request. I do not use unpublished client material in public examples without clear written permission.

How we move

Defined stages and consolidated review

We agree the audience, inputs, approval route and final files at the start, then work through clear review points.

Relevant experience

A financial explainer built from research to finished film.

This short Sharpe Ratio explainer shows the underlying approach: take a technical financial concept, find the clearest route through it, write the script and make the visual explanation work. The same discipline applies to product summaries and client communications.

Illustrative product-summary rewrite

What clearer can look like.

A short fictional example of editorial treatment for a retail investment product. It shows the difference between technically dense wording and a reader-first explanation. The product, figures and wording below are invented; this is not a compliant product summary or regulatory advice.

Before · typical dense source copy

Objective and risk

“The Fund seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation through investment in a diversified portfolio of global equities. The value of investments, and any income from them, may fall as well as rise and investors may not recover the amount originally invested. Returns may be affected by market, currency, liquidity and issuer-specific risks.”

The information is necessary. But the purpose, trade-off and practical implication compete with a list of abstractions.

After · reader-first draft

What this fund is for and what could happen

This fund is designed for long-term growth. It invests mainly in shares in companies around the world. Its value will move up and down, sometimes sharply. You could get back less than you invest.
  • Your return: depends on how the companies and markets perform.
  • What can affect it: market conditions, exchange rates and the performance of individual companies.
  • Who it may suit: investors able to leave money invested for the long term and accept changes in value.

The compliance team would check the scope, balance and final wording. My role is to make the approved message easier to find and understand.
